Training
EDC Gunfighter is a 7-hour close-quarters seminar built for those who carry.
This course is designed to give you the skills to protect your firearm, access it under pressure, shoot from retention, and fight your way back to control, from both standing and grounded positions.
Training Breakdown:
Block 1 — Live Fire (200 Rounds)
Learn how to effectively deploy your firearm based on distance and positioning in a close-range encounter.
You’ll work through progressive shooting positions: from retention shooting at contact distance to full extension — understanding how to safely and efficiently engage a threat as space changes.
Block 2 — Partner Drills (Control & Fight Integration)
This is where you learn to apply it in real life.
You’ll train both sides of the fight:
When you have the firearm:
Accessing your weapon mid-fight
Building your shooting positions with a real person
Weapon retention (in and out of the holster)
Controlling the attacker and creating opportunities to disengage
When the attacker has the firearm:
Stuffing their draw
Controlling both body and hands
Fighting for control and stripping the weapon
We will work from both standing and grounded positions.
Block 3 — Force-on-Force Scenarios
We finish with live scenarios using Glock FX Simunition pistols — safely converted firearms that fire non-lethal marking rounds.
These scenarios introduce real movement and resistance. If you think of Block 1 as real bullets with a fake attacker, this is fake bullets with a real attacker.
These scenarios are not competitions or ‘win vs. lose’ situations — they’re opportunities to apply what you’ve learned, designed to challenge you at your level, and grow alongside your training partners in a controlled environment — creating one of the closest training experiences to a real defensive encounter.
No experience necessary — that’s what we’re here for!
Spots are limited to maintain a high level of training quality.
Equipment List:
Pistol & concealable holster
Magazines & ~200 rounds of ammunition
Eye & ear protection
Sturdy belt, pants, and closed-toe shoes
Groin protection & hoodie/sweatshirt (for scenarios)

Force on Force: Scenario Training is a 1 day, 6 hour course designed to help you master defending yourself with your everyday carry pistol in high stress, real world scenarios through drills and immersion of in-depth defensive scenarios.
Throughout this course, we will focus on developing your defensive skills and decision making at 1 to 10 yard distances.
The first half of the seminar, we’ll focus on building a solid foundation through both live fire and partnered drills. We will cover critical areas like drawing in dynamic environments, weapon retention, positioning and movement, with an emphasis on creating solutions for real-world problems.
Entering the second half of the seminar, you will experience multiple real world scenarios that require you to think on your feet and take decisive action. Using Simunition pistols for realistic, force on force training, you’ll engage in longer, more in-depth scenarios. You will work through various defensive scenarios; including situations involving vehicles, crowded environments, multiple attackers, and potential high-risk threats.
Whether it’s dealing with an attack in a parking lot or navigating the chaos of a roadside altercation, this immersive training will teach you how to think, move, and respond under pressure.
-You will also serve as a role player in other participants scenarios.
-No prior experience is necessary, but safe gun handling is a requirement.
- This course has little to no physical contact between defenders and role players. If you are interested more physical contact, close range weapon retention, fighting over guns in the 0 to 3 yard range from both standing and grounded positions, etc; please see our “EDC Gunfighter” course.

Want The Defense Lab to train in your area?
We travel for training — and are always looking for the next city to add to the calendar.
If you’ve ever thought, “I wish this was closer,” this is your chance to raise your hand.
You don’t need a venue.
You don’t need a date.
You don’t need to “host a seminar.”
All you have to do is tell me where you are and what you want to train.
What this is (and what it isn’t)
This is:
A simple way to tell me, “I’m interested”
A way for me to see where multiple people want training
A starting point to get a class scheduled in your area
This is NOT:
You being responsible for planning an event
You needing to collect money from people
You committing to anything by reaching out
If there’s enough interest in your area, I’ll handle the structure, scheduling, and logistics.
How it works
You reach out
Tell me your location, what you want to train, and (if you have them) a few people who would likely join you.I gauge interest + confirm details
If there’s enough demand, we’ll narrow down a date range and the best class format for your group. We lock it in
Once the minimum is met, I’ll open registration and we’ll get it on the calendar.
What kinds of training can we bring?
Training options include (based on your group, facility, and goals):
EDC Gunfighter (close-range pistol retention / entangled gunfighting)
Force-on-Force: Scenario Training (Scenario-based decision making, realistic scenarios using Simunition guns and marking rounds)
EDC Bladefighter / Blade Defense (context-driven blade skills and training working both offense and defense)
Custom training days for clubs, gyms, or private groups
Not sure what’s best? No problem — tell me what you’re trying to accomplish and I’ll point you in the right direction.
Who is this for?
Friends who want to train together
Gyms and training groups
Ranges and clubs looking to host a unique class
Individuals who can rally a few motivated people in their area
Even if you’re the only one right now, reach out anyway — I’m tracking interest by region.
